Born in Standerton among fields of cosmos flowers, Mandri Sutherland has always felt a natural pull toward performance. She began creating her own stages early on, hosting tea parties for her housekeeper, Georgina, with “guest stars” like Tina Turner, Chris de Burgh, and the Campbells. Later, as a drama student at Stellenbosch, she took her creativity to the streets, performing at markets and parades, sometimes draped in her matric farewell dress. The world was her stage.

Mandri’s performances soon evolved from these street stages to TV shows, movies, and her celebrated one-woman show, VROU Ens., which she brought directly to living rooms across South Africa and Europe. With 175 performances, VROU Ens. became a sensation, offering audiences a uniquely personal and immersive theatre experience. The overwhelming feedback on her hilarious and heartfelt characters inspired Mandri to bring some of her favourites to the social media stage, where her mini-series and anecdotes lit comment sections on fire.

As a multi-talented artist, Mandri has continued to enjoy roles in TV, film, theatre, performance art, and voice-over work. She has appeared in numerous series and films, including Marie se laaste dag, Taktiek, Trompoppie, and Magda Louw, showcasing her versatility and range across South African entertainment.
